Gerret Copeland

Proprietor / Chairman

Both Gerret and Tatiana Copeland grew up drinking wine with their families at dinner. For Gerret, a member of the du Pont family, the wine was always French; his father was a founding member of the Delaware chapter of the Confrérie des Chevaliers du Tastevin, and his mother was the first U.S. woman invited to join the organization. The world of wine caught his imagination early in life, and has never let go.

Owning a Pinot Noir-producing winery of his own was always a pipe dream of Gerret’s . . . until an unexpected call from a friend about an opportunity in Carneros inspired him to make it a reality. His passion for wine, charming personal style, and insistent focus on quality are the driving forces behind the winery’s operations. “I have always adored the softness, roundness and the fleshiness of a great Pinot Noir. It is a wine of unique charms. In my family, wine was not part of our lifestyle — it was in our blood!” he says, alluding to his family’s French heritage.

Tatiana Copeland

Proprietor / President

Tatiana’s family introduced her to the pleasures of wine and food from an early age. In addition to her love of fine wines, Tatiana brings a diverse international background and remarkable family legacy to Bouchaine. Composer Sergei Rachmaninoff was her great uncle and her Russian roots go back more than 1,000 years. Born in Europe, brought up in South America, and educated at UCLA and Berkeley, she is fluent in five languages. At a time when professional women in business were rare, she forged a successful international career at Price Waterhouse and DuPont.

However, Tatiana’s soul has always belonged in California. When the opportunity to buy a historic Carneros winery landed in her lap, she knew that she and her husband had to go for it.

Her colorful background influences the careful attention that is paid to providing a warm, personal and unforgettable visitor experience. At the winery, surrounded by a hundred acres of vineyards, guests are welcome to sit on the terrace, sip a glass of wine and enjoy the serenity. “You go out into Bouchaine’s gardens . . . and feel the vineyard around you,” Tatiana says. “It seduces and envelops you.”

Looking out at Bouchaine’s vineyards she shares these thoughts, “It’s tempting to linger here, enjoying the countryside with a glass of our Estate Pinot Noir. I want our visitors to experience the same connection to the land and the wine at Bouchaine that I do.”
